Stories shape everything
They shape how we think, how we speak, how we see and how we live. They’re how we make sense of the world. They bind us to ideas, beliefs and one another. They pull us beyond the humdrum of our everyday toward somewhere we long to be.
For brands, businesses, institutions and cultural centres, stories create a world for their audience to step into. And that world is the sell-in. Features and facts give credibility and reassurance, yes, but it’s not what grips them or stays with them. What moves them is the story. “We are not thinking machines that feel; we are feeling machines that think”, said the revered neuroscientist Antonio R. Damasio. We’re driven by emotion, and then we justify with reason.
But perhaps my biggest why of late is this: stories spark connection. And at a time when we’re metric-obsessed, pushing efficiency and optimising everything into submission, there’s something stubbornly human about the immeasurable power (and beauty, and joy) of stories.

I know this firsthand because I've spent many years in brilliant but stretched teams with precious little time, lean budgets and scarce resources.
